I first made these treats for the annual Chocolate Weekend in Sycamore. I handed out samples at Sweet Earth (one of my favorite gift shops!) and talked to customers about the benefits of eating naturally.
This year, I am using them as get well treats. One recipient has a torn ACL, another special friend is having surgery. These cacao treats are bringing smiles to all on the mend.
I also plan to give them out on Valentines Day. What better way to express love than to give a gift of natural food that warms the heart and is good for it all at the same time?
Walnuts, of course, are quite beneficial; providing a good dose of Omega 3’s, Vitamin E, folates, melatonin and antioxidants- all of which support healthy brain function.
Cacao nibs (isn’t that a cute word?) are the least processed, most natural form of chocolate. They contain antioxidants, flavonoids, fiber, magnesium and potassium. They are slightly bitter, but have a nice nutty component that makes them a great addition to smoothies. Or eat them on their own as a nice afternoon pick me up. Cacao nibs are available in the health food section of most grocery stores.
These sweet treats whip up in a snap and keep, refrigerated for 5-7 days.
